Question. Will my institution's IT staff need to support StudentAccess?
No. Heiberg Consulting can provide all the technical support for the
StudentAccess program. Your IT staff may need to assist with downloading
upgrades if you do not have permissions on your PC.
Question. What are the system requirements?
The system requirements are:
* Windows 2000 or higher
* Pentium III Processor
* SVGA (800x600 or higher) video adapter
* Microsoft Access 2000 or higher
* Network required for multi-user functionality
Question. Can I use a Mac to run StudentAccess?
Yes, you can run StudentAccess on a Mac but it will need to be running an
emulation program like Parallels, or
Fusion. Or,
you can use the Boot Camp feature on your Intel based Mac to run Windows
and Microsoft Office.
Question.
Is a network server required?
A network server is not required but is usually used in most multi-user
installations. The software can be installed on a single, stand alone computer. A
workgroup configuration with a single PC sharing the data file is also common.
Question. Where is the data stored?
The data is stored in an Access data file, separate from the program file. If
multiple people will need access to the data, then the data file should be
located on a network or other shared drive. Each user will need read/write
access to the data file location. A SQL Server can also be used to store the
data instead of the Access data file.
Question. Is the data secure/is encryption used?
Yes, StudentAccess uses secure 256-bit encryption.
Question. How much disk space is needed?
You should allow approximately 10MB for the program file. For the data file, a
good estimate is 1 MB per 100 students per year without pictures. Space
requirements will vary if pictures are stored based on the size and resolution
of the pictures.
Question. Is there a web version available?
Web versions for currently available for Talent Search and Gear Up programs. If
you would like to inquire about the availability of web versions for other
programs, please contact us at 1-800-801-1232 or email
info@studentaccess.com.
Question. Can I use StudentAccess with Remote Access and VPN?
Yes. With any type of remote access, our recommendations will be based on the bandwidth. For low bandwidth remote access, we recommend Terminal Services. For
higher bandwidth enviornments VPN connections work well. In all cases, Terminal
Services, StudentAccess web versions, and SQL Server data stores increase
performance.
Question.
Does StudentAccess support Microsoft SQL server?
Yes, StudentAccess is fully compatible with Microsoft SQL server. Complete
instructions on how to set up an ODBC connection can be found on our website or call us at 1-800-801-1232 for assistance.
